  • Arrive at Noi Bai International Airport and transfer to your pre-booked Hanoi hotel.
  • Complete check-in and take some time to rest after the flight.
  • Visit the Temple of Literature and Hoan Kiem Lake during the afternoon city tour.
  • Stop at Hanoi Heritage House for a closer look at the city’s traditional urban life.
  • Explore the Old Quarter by cyclo and taste Hanoi’s famous egg coffee before returning to the hotel.

Overnight: Hanoi

  • Drive towards Ninh Binh the next day, enjoying views of northern Vietnam’s countryside along the way.
  • Visit the former royal capital of Hoa Lu, including Dinh King and Le King temples.
  • Continue to the UNESCO-listed Trang An Landscape Complex for a traditional sampan ride.
  • Pass limestone cliffs, waterways and caves such as Light Cave, Dark Cave, Ba Giot and Nau Ruou, depending on the operating boat route.
  • Return to Hanoi after sightseeing for an overnight stay.

Overnight: Hanoi

  • Leave Hanoi after breakfast today and travel towards Tuan Chau Marina at Halong Bay.
  • Board the day cruise and enjoy lunch while sailing among the bay’s limestone formations.
  • Explore Sung Sot (Surprise) Cave and Titop Island as included in the cruise programme.
  • Continue to Luon Cave by kayak or a locally rowed bamboo boat, subject to weather and operating conditions.
  • Join the sunset programme before disembarking and returning to Hanoi.

Overnight: Hanoi

  • Check out after breakfast the next day and begin the approximately five- to six-hour road journey to Sapa.
  • Arrive in Sapa, check in at the hotel and take some time to rest.
  • Set out on an afternoon trek through rice-terrace countryside towards Lao Chai and Ta Van.
  • Learn about local mountain life and the traditions of communities including the Giay people.
  • Return to Sapa and keep the evening free to explore the town independently.

Overnight: Sapa

  • Head to Sun World Fansipan Legend after breakfast today.
  • Ride the cable car above Muong Hoa Valley and the Hoang Lien mountains towards Fansipan.
  • Explore the mountain’s spiritual complex and continue towards the 3,143-metre summit, depending on weather and visibility.
  • Take in the mountain scenery before descending by cable car.
  • Leave Sapa and make the long road journey back to Hanoi for an overnight stay.

  • Enjoy breakfast at the hotel today.
  • Keep any remaining time free depending on your flight schedule.

  • Current Sun World guidance states that outside food should not be taken into the cable-car cabin/tourist area, so follow the attraction's latest instructions.
  • Do not cross barriers or enter restricted areas around the Fansipan cable-car system.
  • At Trang An, do not damage cave formations, archaeological features or protected landscapes. The UNESCO site is managed under regulated visitor-use and conservation controls.
  • Do not leave the designated boat route or stand up unnecessarily in the small Trang An sampans.
  • At Halong Bay, do not swim or kayak outside authorised stops or when the cruise crew suspends activities because of weather.
  • Life jackets and other safety instructions should not be ignored during boat or kayak excursions.
  • Avoid loud or disrespectful behaviour at temples, pagodas and spiritual sites.
  • Do not litter on trekking trails, inside caves, around the bay or at mountain viewpoints.

Best fit: April - May and September - November These months provide the strongest overall balance. Halong has better chances of clearer conditions, Hanoi is comfortable and Sapa is well suited to trekking and mountain views. September and early October also bring attractive rice-terrace scenery around Sapa.

Also possible: February - March and December The itinerary remains workable, but expect cooler or mistier conditions in Halong and Sapa. December can be pleasant in Hanoi but considerably colder in the mountains.

Avoid / Least Suitable: June - August These months are hotter, wetter and more humid in Hanoi, while Halong and Sapa can experience storms and heavier rainfall. Tropical weather can occasionally disrupt Halong cruises, and Sapa trekking trails may become muddy or slippery.

  • Indian passport holders can use Vietnam’s e-Visa system. The current e-Visa can be issued for up to 90 days, for single or multiple entry; the official portal currently lists fees of USD 25 and USD 50 respectively.
  • Day 1 requires a reasonably early arrival if the complete afternoon Hanoi sightseeing programme is to be covered. Late arrivals may need sightseeing adjusted.
  • Trang An boat tours typically take around two to four hours depending on the chosen route. The exact cave and temple sequence can therefore vary.
  • Halong cruise itineraries are weather-dependent. Heavy rain or tropical storms can lead to changes or cancellations.
  • The Hanoi–Sapa road journey generally takes five to six hours each way, making Days 4 and 5 fairly active.
  • The Lao Chai–Ta Van trek can involve uneven paths, slopes and muddy sections, particularly during the rainy season.
  • Fansipan is considerably colder and windier than Sapa town, so summit visibility cannot be guaranteed even if conditions are clear lower down.
  • The Fansipan cable car reopened on 28 September 2026 after scheduled maintenance. Operating hours currently vary by day and can change because of weather, so reconfirm shortly before travel.
  • The cable car does not remove all walking. Travellers who find stairs difficult should consider the additional summit funicular.
  • Respectful behaviour and modest dress are advisable at Hoa Lu temples and the Fansipan spiritual complex.
