Best fit: April to September

This period generally brings drier weather and better conditions for Jatiluwih, Tanah Lot sunsets, Uluwatu and Tanjung Benoa water sports. July and August are particularly popular, so expect more visitors.

Also possible: March, October and November

These shoulder months can still work well. Expect occasional showers and less predictable sunset or water-sport conditions, particularly as the wetter season approaches.

Least suitable: December to February

Bali remains visitable, but these months fall within the wetter season. Heavier showers can affect outdoor sightseeing, visibility and marine activities, so itineraries need more flexibility.

  • Indian passport holders are currently among the nationalities eligible for Indonesia’s Visa on Arrival, which permits an initial stay of 30 days and currently costs IDR 500,000.
  • Keep a passport with more than six months’ validity and your confirmed return/onward travel details.
  • International passengers arriving in Bali must complete the All Indonesia arrival declaration. It can be filled in from three days before arrival.

  • Tirta Empul and Uluwatu are active Hindu temples, so respectful dress and behaviour are important.

  • Kintamani is cooler than Bali’s coastal areas, so carrying a light layer can be useful.
  • Bali road journeys can be slower than expected because of traffic, especially around Kuta, Ubud and southern Bali.
