• Leather items, including shoes, belts and cameras, are prohibited within the main Pashupatinath complex and must be left outside.

• Avoid photography inside temples or during religious ceremonies without permission.

Best fit: February to April and October to November

These months offer the best balance of comfortable sightseeing and Himalayan visibility. October and November are particularly good for clearer skies after the monsoon, while spring offers pleasant weather across Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Also possible: January, May, September and December

January and December can offer bright, clear days, but mornings and evenings are colder. May becomes warmer, and visibility may be less consistent. September, especially later in the month, becomes more workable as the monsoon starts easing.

Avoid / least suitable: June to August

This is the main monsoon period. Nepal receives around 80% of its rainfall during June–September, and Pokhara is particularly wet. Cloud, rain and road conditions can affect Sarangkot views, city sightseeing and the Kathmandu-Pokhara drives.

• The Kathmandu-Pokhara road journey is long, and actual travel time can vary with traffic, weather and road conditions.
• Sarangkot sunrise and Himalayan views are weather-dependent; clear mountain views should never be guaranteed.
• Pashupatinath’s main temple is open only to Hindus. Non-Hindu visitors can observe the temple area from designated viewpoints across the Bagmati River.
• Expect plenty of walking, steps and uneven surfaces at Durbar Squares, stupas and temple complexes.
• Heritage sites including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan, Swayambhunath and Boudhanath charge entry fees, with rates varying by visitor category.
• Remove footwear where required and walk clockwise around temples and Buddhist stupas.
• Indian citizens do not require a Nepal visa. A valid passport or voter ID is accepted for entry; separate documentation rules apply to minors.
• Keep the itinerary somewhat flexible during the June–September monsoon, when rain may slow road transfers or affect outdoor sightseeing.
