Best fit: November to March

This is the strongest overall weather window for the route. Siem Reap is drier and more comfortable; Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong generally have better weather, while Hanoi and Ha Long are cooler, sometimes misty, but still workable.

Also possible: April - May and September - October

April and May work well in Vietnam, but Cambodia becomes hotter. September and October can give pleasant conditions around Hanoi and Ha Long, while Cambodia remains greener after the rains; showers are still possible.

Avoid/ Least suitable: June to August

These months bring heat, humidity and heavier rain across much of the route. Ha Long can experience storms that occasionally disrupt cruises, while Cambodia is in its wet season.

  • This itinerary crosses two countries and includes two flight sectors: Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap. These should be clearly confirmed as included or excluded.
  • Vietnam currently offers an official e-Visa valid for up to 90 days, single or multiple entry, through the Immigration Department portal.
  • Cambodia’s official Tourist e-Visa (Visa T) currently allows a one-month stay, is single-entry and costs USD 30; passports need more than six months’ validity.
  • Cambodia also requires travellers to complete the e-Arrival form, with the official system recommending submission within seven days before arrival.
  • Ha Long cruise schedules, swimming and island stops are weather-dependent; tropical storms can disrupt sailing, especially in summer.
  • The Cu Chi Tunnels are narrow and confined in places. Travellers uncomfortable with enclosed spaces can remain above ground.
  • The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum requires modest dress covering shoulders and knees; hats should be removed at religious sites.
  • Angkor sightseeing involves significant walking, uneven stone surfaces and steep steps, so comfortable footwear is important.
  • Purchase the Angkor Archaeological Park pass only through the official ticket office or authorised official online channel.
  • Tonle Sap’s scenery and floating-village experience change with seasonal water levels, which rise significantly during the wet season.
