Itinerary Detail

Day 1:

Arrival in Guwahati – City & Temple Tour

Arrive at Guwahati Airport or Railway Station, where our representative will receive you and assist with a private transfer to your hotel. Guwahati, set along the banks of the Brahmaputra River, is the cultural, spiritual, and logistical gateway to Northeast India and forms the starting point for many popular Assam tour packages.

After check-in and some rest, proceed for a guided city and temple tour. Begin with a visit to the Kamakhya Temple, one of the most powerful Shakti Peethas in India, revered for its association with ancient Tantric traditions. Located atop Nilachal Hill, the temple also offers panoramic views of the city and the Brahmaputra valley.

Continue to the Balaji Temple, a peaceful modern shrine inspired by South Indian temple architecture, followed by a visit to Umananda Temple, situated on Peacock Island in the middle of the Brahmaputra River. Reached by a short ferry ride (subject to river conditions), the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and provides a unique spiritual experience.

Later, explore Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, an expansive cultural complex that showcases Assam’s traditional architecture, handicrafts, folk art, costumes, and regional heritage. This visit provides a strong cultural context before you journey deeper into the Northeast.

Return to the hotel by evening.

Overnight stay in Guwahati.

Day 2:

Guwahati – Kaziranga National Park

(Approx. 190 km / 4 hours)

After breakfast, check out and drive towards Kaziranga National Park, one of India’s most iconic wildlife reserves and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The drive takes you through Assam’s lush countryside, with long stretches of tea estates, river plains, forest belts, and rural villages, offering an authentic glimpse into everyday life in the region.

You may notice tea gardens that contribute to Assam’s global reputation as one of the world’s largest tea-producing regions—an experience often highlighted in extended itineraries like the Gems of Assam Tour.

On arrival near Kaziranga, check into your wildlife resort located close to the safari zones. The remainder of the day is kept free to relax after the drive. You may enjoy the natural surroundings of the resort, observe birds around water bodies, or simply unwind in preparation for the upcoming safaris.

Dinner is served at the resort.

Overnight stay near Kaziranga National Park.

Day 3:

Kaziranga National Park – Wildlife Safaris – Haflong

(Approx. 275 km / 6 hours)

Early morning, proceed for an elephant safari (subject to availability and forest department permission), one of the most immersive ways to explore Kaziranga’s tall grasslands. The early hours provide excellent chances to spot one-horned rhinoceroses, swamp deer, wild buffalo, and grazing herds in soft morning light.

After breakfast, head out for a jeep safari across one of Kaziranga’s designated ranges. Accompanied by an authorised forest guide, you traverse wetlands, forest patches, and riverine grasslands that make Kaziranga a highlight of the larger North East Wildlife Tour.

Later in the day, begin your scenic drive to Haflong, Assam’s only hill station. As you move away from the plains, the landscape gradually changes to rolling hills, forested slopes, and quieter roads. Haflong is known for its laid-back charm, cooler climate, and panoramic hill views.

On arrival, check into your hotel and relax after the long drive.

Overnight stay in Haflong.

Day 4:

Haflong – Hill Town Sightseeing

After breakfast, explore Haflong, a serene hill town often referred to as the “Switzerland of Assam.” Begin with a visit to Haflong Lake, the heart of the town, surrounded by forested hills and ideal for relaxed walks and photography.

Continue to nearby viewpoints that offer sweeping views of valleys, distant hill ranges, and changing light patterns through the day. Unlike busier hill stations, Haflong remains relatively untouched, making it ideal for travellers seeking quiet nature experiences.

The remainder of the day is at leisure. You may explore local markets, interact with residents from different tribal communities, or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere that defines Haflong’s appeal.

Overnight stay in Haflong.

Day 5:

Haflong – Nagaon

(Approx. 210 km / 4 hours 15 minutes)

After breakfast, check out and drive to Nagaon, descending from the hill landscapes back into Assam’s fertile plains. The journey passes rivers, agricultural fields, and small settlements, highlighting the geographical diversity of the region.

On arrival in Nagaon, check into your hotel. The evening is kept free to rest and recover after the road journey.

Overnight stay in Nagaon.

Day 6:

Nagaon – Shillong via Umiam Lake

(Approx. 180 km / 4 hours 10 minutes)

After breakfast, drive towards Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya and one of Northeast India’s most popular hill destinations. En route, stop at Umiam Lake (Barapani), a vast reservoir surrounded by pine forests and rolling hills. Often described as the gateway to Meghalaya, the lake is a major highlight of many Shillong tour packages.

Continue your drive to Shillong and check into your hotel on arrival. The evening is free for leisure—ideal for exploring local cafés, walking around Police Bazaar, or relaxing at the hotel.

Day 7:

Shillong – Cherrapunji – Shillong

After breakfast, set out for a full-day excursion to Cherrapunji (Sohra), one of the wettest places on Earth and a region famed for its dramatic natural beauty. Visit Nohkalikai Falls, India’s tallest plunge waterfall, followed by the Seven Sisters Falls, especially impressive during and after the monsoon season.

Explore Mawsmai Caves, a limestone cave system offering insight into Meghalaya’s unique geological formations. Several viewpoints along the route provide sweeping vistas of deep gorges and the plains of Bangladesh in the distance—an experience central to many Meghalaya tour itineraries.

Return to Shillong by evening.

Overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 8:

Shillong – Mawlynnong – Shillong

After breakfast, drive to Mawlynnong Village, often referred to as Asia’s cleanest village. Walk through neat village lanes, bamboo houses, and community gardens that reflect sustainable living and eco-conscious tourism.

Visit the famous Living Root Bridge, a remarkable example of bio-engineering where the roots of rubber fig trees are guided over decades to form natural bridges. This unique structure highlights the deep connection between local communities and nature, making Mawlynnong a must-visit destination on cultural routes across Meghalaya.

Return to Shillong by evening.

Day 9:

Shillong – Guwahati – Departure

(Approx. 98 km / 3 hours)
