Itinerary Detail

Day 1:

Arrival in Cochin – Heritage Sightseeing & Harbour Cruise

Arrive at Cochin International Airport or Railway Station, where our representative welcomes you and assists with a private transfer to your hotel. After check-in and a short rest, begin your introduction to Cochin (Kochi)—Kerala’s historic port city and cultural gateway featured in many Kerala tour packages.

Proceed for guided sightseeing in Fort Kochi, a heritage quarter shaped by centuries of Portuguese, Dutch, and British influence. Visit the Dutch Palace (Mattancherry Palace), renowned for its detailed Kerala murals depicting episodes from the Ramayana and royal traditions of Cochin. Continue to St. Francis Church, one of the oldest European churches in India, followed by the historic Jewish Synagogue in Jew Town—still in use and surrounded by spice stores and antique shops that echo Kochi’s trading past.

As evening approaches, enjoy a harbour cruise along Cochin’s waterfront. The cruise offers views of Chinese fishing nets, dockyards, fishing boats, and container ships set against the glowing skyline—an atmospheric way to understand Kochi’s maritime legacy and role in India’s spice trade.

Return to the hotel for dinner and rest.

Overnight stay in Cochin.

Day 2:

Cochin – Markets, Culture & Cooking Session

After breakfast, explore Cochin’s local fish and spice markets, where fresh seafood, coconut, curry leaves, dried fish, pepper, and other spices arrive early each morning. With guidance, learn how ingredients are selected, cleaned, and paired—an essential foundation for understanding traditional Kerala cuisine and a highlight of cultural journeys like Kerala culinary tours.

Later in the day, attend your first guided cooking session led by an expert chef. The session introduces Indian cooking fundamentals—spice tempering, grinding techniques, and balance of flavours—before moving into hands-on preparation of select Kerala dishes. You actively participate throughout the process, from ingredient prep to final plating.

The cooking experience concludes with a shared meal featuring the dishes you have prepared, allowing you to appreciate flavour combinations in context. The evening is free to relax at your hotel or take a leisurely walk through Fort Kochi’s cafés and heritage streets.

Overnight stay in Cochin.

Day 3:

Cochin – Periyar (Thekkady)

(Approx. 157 km / 5–6 hours)

After breakfast, check out and drive to Periyar (Thekkady), a lush highland region known for its spice plantations and forest reserves. The journey transitions gradually from coastal plains into cooler, greener interiors—passing rubber estates, small towns, and forested stretches typical of South Kerala’s landscape.

On arrival, check into your hotel set amid forested surroundings near Periyar National Park, a key destination in many Kerala wildlife tours. In the evening, enjoy a leisurely walk through the nearby Spice Village, observing small-scale farming, spice drying yards, and daily life shaped by plantation culture. Return to your hotel to attend a class on cooking that will teach you the use of traditional spices in cooking.

Dinner is served at the hotel.

Overnight stay in Periyar.

Day 4:

Periyar – Spice Plantations & Boat Safari

After breakfast, visit a spice plantation, where knowledgeable guides explain how cardamom, pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves are cultivated, harvested, and processed. You also learn about their culinary and Ayurvedic applications—connecting Kerala’s food traditions with its wellness practices.

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari on Periyar Lake, one of the most peaceful ways to experience Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. As the boat glides across calm waters, watch for elephants, deer, wild boar, and birdlife along the forested banks. The experience focuses on observation rather than speed, making it ideal for nature lovers.

The evening is free for rest at your hotel.

Overnight stay in Periyar.

Day 5:

Periyar – Kumarakom

(Approx. 122 km / 3.5 hours)

After breakfast, drive to Kumarakom, a tranquil backwater destination located on Vembanad Lake. Compared to Alleppey, Kumarakom offers a quieter and more nature-focused experience, often preferred by slow travellers and birdwatchers exploring Kerala backwaters.

On arrival, check into your lakeside resort surrounded by coconut palms and waterways. Here an exciting event, “Conquering the Coconut,” awaits you. During this event, you will be given a demonstration on plucking, de-husking, breaking, grating, and finally, using these grated coconuts. The rest of the day is free to relax, enjoy lake views, or take gentle walks along village paths. Kumarakom’s cuisine reflects freshwater fish, rice-based preparations, and coconut flavours—adding a distinct layer to your culinary journey.

Dinner at the resort.

Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 6:

Kumarakom – Bird Sanctuary & Culinary Demonstration

After breakfast, visit the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary, a haven for migratory and native birds set amid wetlands and mangroves. Walk through shaded trails and observe seasonal birdlife, offering insight into the region’s ecological balance.

Later in the day, attend a culinary demonstration focused on Kerala’s regional cooking styles. The chef highlights everyday preparation techniques, use of coconut milk, spice tempering, and slow-cooking methods commonly practised in Kerala households. The emphasis is on understanding flavour balance and ingredient harmony rather than complex presentation.

Evening at leisure to enjoy resort amenities or lakeside relaxation.

Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 7:

Kumarakom – Mararikulam

(Approx. 26 km / 30–45 minutes)

After breakfast, drive to Mararikulam, a peaceful coastal village known for its clean beaches and traditional fishing culture—often included in relaxed Kerala beach tours. On arrival, check into your beachside resort.

In the afternoon, enjoy a guided village walk, observing fishing nets, coconut groves, and daily coastal life shaped by the Arabian Sea. Later, attend a seafood-focused cooking session, where chefs demonstrate preparation of classic Kerala seafood dishes using locally sourced fish, coconut, and coastal spices. This session highlights how coastal flavours differ from inland and plantation cuisines.

Dinner at the resort.

Overnight stay in Mararikulam.

Day 8:

Mararikulam – Cochin Departure

(Approx. 70 km / 2 hours)
