Itinerary Detail

Day 1:

Arrival in Kumarakom – Backwater Welcome & Coconut Lagoon Cruise

Arrive at Kumarakom, one of Kerala’s most serene backwater destinations, set along the eastern banks of Vembanad Lake, the largest lake in the state. Upon arrival, our representative will welcome you and arrange a smooth transfer to your hotel or backwater resort.

After check-in, the afternoon is kept relaxed to help you unwind amid palm-lined canals, paddy fields, and quiet village surroundings. Kumarakom’s slower pace makes it ideal for easing into a culinary and experiential journey through Kerala.

Later in the day, proceed for a boat ride to Coconut Lagoon, a heritage property accessible only by water and located along the scenic Kavanar River. As the boat glides through narrow canals and open stretches of water, you’ll pass village homes, coconut groves, and fishing activity—offering an authentic introduction to Kerala backwater life featured in many Kerala backwater tour packages.

By evening, enjoy a peaceful sunset backwater cruise, when the lake reflects golden hues and village life slows down. Return to your hotel for dinner.

Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 2:

Kumarakom – Fishing, Farming & Culinary Experience

After breakfast, set out for a unique experiential visit to Philip Kutty’s Farm, a family-run island farm reachable only by boat. This immersive experience offers insight into Kerala’s rural food culture. You’ll interact with local farmers and learn about traditional fishing techniques, seasonal vegetable cultivation, coconut farming, and inland fish varieties that form the backbone of Kerala cuisine.

The experience highlights how local ingredients move directly from farm and water to the kitchen—an essential philosophy behind Kerala’s culinary traditions.

Later in the day, attend your first guided culinary session. An expert chef introduces you to backwater-style cooking, explaining the use of coconut milk, curry leaves, black pepper, and slow-cooking methods common in lakeside households. Guests participate hands-on, preparing select traditional dishes under guidance.

The session concludes with a shared meal, allowing you to enjoy the food you’ve prepared while understanding flavour balance and ingredient pairing.

Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 3:

Kumarakom – Leisure & Backwater Exploration

This day is reserved for leisure and personal exploration. After breakfast, enjoy free time at your resort. You may relax by the pool, enjoy uninterrupted views of Vembanad Lake, or take a gentle walk along nearby village paths to observe daily life around the backwaters.

Optional experiences such as a canoe ride through narrow canals or a short guided village visit can be arranged (optional, at extra cost). These activities offer a closer look at coir-making, fishing routines, and traditional homes—experiences often included in curated Kumarakom tour packages.

Dinner is served at the hotel, allowing for a quiet evening amid natural surroundings.

Overnight stay in Kumarakom.

Day 4:

Kumarakom – Marari Beach

(Approx. 40 km / 1.5 hours)

After breakfast, check out and drive to Mararikulam, commonly known as Marari Beach—a quiet coastal village famed for its unspoiled shoreline and fishing culture.

On arrival, check into your beachside resort set amid coconut palms and sandy paths. Unlike busier beaches, Marari is known for its calm atmosphere, making it a favourite among slow travellers and couples.

The remainder of the day is at leisure. Relax on the beach, enjoy the sea breeze, or simply unwind at the resort as waves roll in from the Arabian Sea.

Overnight stay in Marari.

Day 5:

Marari – Coastal Life & Seafood Cooking Session

After breakfast, enjoy a relaxed morning at Marari Beach. You may opt for a guided village walk, observing fishing nets drying in the sun, wooden catamarans, and traditional coastal homes that define Kerala’s seaside lifestyle.

Later in the day, attend a seafood-focused cooking session, where expert chefs demonstrate the preparation of classic Kerala coastal dishes using freshly sourced fish and shellfish. Learn how coastal flavours differ from inland cuisine, with greater use of coconut oil, tamarind, kokum, and spice blends influenced by maritime trade.

This hands-on session deepens your understanding of Kerala’s seafood traditions, a highlight of many Kerala culinary tours.

Dinner is served at the resort.

Overnight stay in Marari.

Day 6:

Marari – Cochin (Kochi)

(Approx. 55 km / 1.5–2 hours)

After breakfast, check out and drive to Cochin (Kochi), Kerala’s historic port city and cultural melting pot.

On arrival, check into your hotel. In the afternoon, explore Fort Kochi, known for its colonial-era streets and multicultural heritage shaped by Portuguese, Dutch, and British influences. Depending on available time, you may visit iconic landmarks such as the Chinese Fishing Nets, St. Francis Church, or browse antique shops and spice markets in Jew Town (entrance fees, if any, payable directly).

The evening is free for leisure—ideal for café hopping or a waterfront stroll.

Overnight stay in Cochin.

Day 7:

Cochin – Departure

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and transfer to Cochin International Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey.
