It has been righty included as an Institute of national importance in the seventh schedule of the Constitution of India.

The Indian Museum in Kolkata exhibits an Egyptian mummy, houses a great mansion, the Buddhist Stupa from Bharhut, the Buddha’s ashes, the Ashoka pillar, fossil skeletons of pre-historic animals, art collection and other rare antiques.
