Nuranang Falls is located around 40 km from Tawang town and is also known as Jang Falls or Bong Bong Falls. This waterfall is placed at an elevation of about 6000 feet and is one of the most stunning waterfalls in Arunachal Pradesh. River Nuranang originates from the northern slope of Sela Pass and forms Nuranag Falls before it meets River Tawang. While on your way to Tawang, halt at these waterfalls to have a good time with your loved ones. Stop here on your way to Tawang. Renowned by multiple names such as Jung/Jang Falls or Bong Bong Falls, the magnificent Nuranang Falls gracefully descends from a towering elevation of 100 meters.

About 2 km from Jang town, the Nuranang Waterfall is 100 meters high. Do not forget to click pictures of the beautiful surroundings. The locals believe that this milky white waterfall has been named after Nura, a Monpa tribal girl who probably helped an Indian soldier by supplying arms and giving shelter to him during the Indo-China war. After visiting the falls, you can also visit the Hydel power station, which is placed nearby.

Regular bus service is available from Tawang to reach Nuranang Falls. These waterfalls shot to fame after shooting one of the songs Tanhai Tanhai by Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, the starter Bollywood movie Koyla, was done here in 1997.

Best time to visit Nuranang Falls

Given the pleasant climate during the summer months in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, those are believed to be the best time to visit the beautiful place. October to April is thus the preferable time to visit the place.

How to reach Nuranang Falls

By Flight: The nearest airport is at Guwahati, which lies 480 km from Tawang, which is well-connected to major cities of the country. Following that, one can take a car from the airport to Tezpur (182 km from the airport) for a further journey to Tawang. Full-fledged helicopter services are present from Guwahati to Tawang daily at the price of Rs. 4000 for adults and Rs. 2,500 for children.

By Road: Regular state and private bus services are present from Tawang headed to the Nuranang Falls. Travelers generally hire a cab from Tawang to Bomdila and stop at Nuranang Falls.

By Train: the nearest railway station at Tezpur is well connected to Bomdila and Tawang by road. From the railway station, one can take a cab or bus to Bomdila or Tawang to reach Nuranang Falls.

Nuranang Falls Traveling Tips

  • During the monsoon, you have to be careful as the Nuranang River has a tendency to overflow. It may not be safe to visit the falls then!
  • There are a lot of unevenly stacked rocks to scramble around the falls. Take care!
  • You need to be aware of the fact that there is no toilet or any other facilities at the falls
  • Many accidents have happened at Nuranang Falls on the hike down due to heavy rains. You have to be careful of that
