Understanding the Visa Application Route

Indian tourists travelling to Saudi Arabia must proceed through one of two distinct application pathways, depending on their profile and travel history.

E-Visa or Visa on Arrival 

This is for Indian citizens who meet one of the following criteria:

• Hold a valid tourist or business visa from the United States, the United Kingdom, or a Schengen zone country. The visa must have been used at least once and bear an entry stamp from the issuing country.
• Hold a valid residence permit with at least 3 months’ validity remaining from a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) country, such as the UAE, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, or Kuwait.

Standard Applications

Indian passport holders who do not meet the eligibility conditions for the Saudi e-Visa or Visa on Arrival must apply through the Saudi visa application centres in India – Tasheer/ Visa Facilitation Service centres.

This process requires the applicant to:

• Submit the visa application form through the authorised centre
• Provide supporting documents such as your passport, photographs, and travel details
• Attend an in-person appointment for document verification
• Complete mandatory biometric enrolment, including fingerprints and a photograph.

Saudi authorities review the application and return the passport after making a decision.

What is a Tasheer Centre?

Tasheer is the exclusive visa outsourcing service provider officially appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Saudi Arabia to operate in India.

The primary functions of Tasheer centres include:

• Verifying physical application documents against official compliance lists.
• Collecting mandatory visa, platform, and medical insurance fees.
• Enrolling applicant biometrics (digital fingerprints and facial photographs).
• Processing applications securely through the MOFA digital portal.

Required Documentation

When applying through Tasheer centres, Indian applicants must submit a standard set of physical documents for verification and forwarding to the Saudi Embassy.

• Original passport (valid for at least 6 months with blank pages)

For Hajj

The Hajj visa is heavily restricted by country-specific quotas and can only be obtained through the official Nusuk Hajj platform or authorised national missions. It is valid exclusively for the specific Hajj season and requires strict biometric enrolment, prepaid licensed packages (covering transport and Mina/Arafat camps), and mandatory meningitis vaccinations.

• Quadrivalent Meningitis (ACYW135): Must be administered and officially stamped at least 10 days before your flight.
• Polio Vaccine Certificate (Oral/Inactivated): Proof of a dose taken within 12 months of travel.
• Official Medical Fitness Certificate: A specific state-health-approved screening report certifying you are free from severe chronic or infectious illnesses.

For Umrah

The Umrah visa can be applied for year-round and is easily obtained digitally through the official Nusuk platform or licensed Umrah travel agencies. Step 2: Collate Your Physical Document Folder 

Gather your original physical paperwork that exactly matches the checklist requirements. Ensure your passport has 6 months’ validity; place your two spec-compliant photographs inside; and include clear, full-page photocopies of both your passport bio-data and address pages.

Step 3: Secure Accommodation and Flight Confirmations 

Insert your confirmed return airline tickets and system-logged hotel reservations directly into the folder. 

Travel insight: For freelance or independent travellers, include your last 3 months of original bank statements showing a minimum balance equivalent to $750 per applicant, stamped and signed by bank officials.

Step 4: Ticket Verification and Entry Token 

Arrive at the physical Tasheer centre precisely 15 minutes before your slot. Present your printed appointment letter and original passport at the reception gate to pass security screening, clear the electronic items check, and receive your sequential service token. 

Step 5: Document Desk Audit and Biometrics 

When your token number is called, approach the assigned submission counter. The centre agent will physically audit your paperwork for name-spelling matches and mismatches. Once verified, you will proceed immediately to the biometric booth to capture your digital facial photo and ten-digit fingerprints.

Step 6: Counter Fee Settlement and Passport Tracking 

Pay your processing fees, administrative service charge, and mandatory Saudi medical insurance at the cash counter using cash, card, or UPI. Collect your printed payment receipt, which bears your unique Barcode Tracking Number, and use it online to monitor your passport status until it is couriered back.

How To Track Your Application?

• For Digital e-Visas: Track directly online by visiting the official KSA Visa portal. Under "Track Application", enter your Application ID/Order Number and your Passport Number to view your real-time approval status.
• For Physical Centre Submissions (Tasheer): Use the official tracking tool on the Tasheer or VFS Global portal. Enter the unique Barcode Reference Number found on your physical payment receipt along with your Date of Birth or Last Name.
• Automated Updates: The system automatically sends email and optional SMS alerts the moment a visa decision is finalised, and your physical passport is dispatched back to the centre or your courier address.

Visa Fees and Validity

Payments at Tasheer centres can be made using cash, credit cards, debit cards, or unified UPI options. Online applications accept internationally enabled debit or credit cards (primarily Visa and MasterCard) configured for global e-commerce.

Visa Processing Timeline

• Tourist e-Visa / Conditional e-Visa: Exceptionally fast, usually processed digitally and emailed to you within 24 to 72 hours (often taking just a few minutes if all submitted data matches perfectly).
• Physical Centre Submissions (Tasheer): For visa types requiring physical passport submission (like Family Visit, Business, or standard tourist stickers), processing takes 3 to 10 business days, depending on embassy volume.
• Umrah Visa: Typically approved online within 24 to 48 hours via the Nusuk platform or registered travel partners.
• Hajj Visa: Subject to strict national timeline brackets; processed in structured batches months before the pilgrimage season begins.

Tourist Visa Validity and Stay Duration

• Visa Validity: 1 Year (365 Days) from the exact date of issuance.
• Entry Type: Multiple Entry. You can enter and exit the country as many times as you like while the visa is valid.
• Maximum Stay Duration: Up to 90 Days per individual visit.
• Total Stay Limit: You can spend a maximum of 180 days in Saudi Arabia within the 1-year visa period.

Crucial Rule: Even though your visa is valid for an entire year, you must leave the country before your continuous stay exceeds 90 days. Overstaying beyond 90 days on a single trip triggers automatic fines starting at SAR 500 (~₹11,000) and possible travel restrictions.
