By Air
Cochin International Airport is at Nedumbassery, outside the city. Take a taxi to your hotel or use the airport feeder bus to connect with the metro at Aluva.
Fly into Cochin International Airport, arrive by train at Ernakulam, or travel by road from elsewhere in Kerala. Your final transfer depends on where you are staying: Fort Kochi, central Ernakulam and the airport area are separate locations. Check your hotel address before choosing a station, bus stop or pickup point.
Arrival overview
Cochin International Airport is at Nedumbassery, outside the city. Take a taxi to your hotel or use the airport feeder bus to connect with the metro at Aluva.
Ernakulam Junction, also called South, and Ernakulam Town, also called North, are the main city railway stations. Check your ticket carefully before arranging pickup.
Intercity buses and cars reach Kochi from across Kerala and neighbouring states. Confirm the bus drop point, especially if your stay is in Fort Kochi.
Most practical arrival route
Choose a direct hotel transfer if you have heavy luggage or arrive late. Public transport works well when its operating hours and stops fit your accommodation.
Route details
Cochin International Airport serves domestic and international flights. The onward journey varies by neighbourhood, so a single airport-to-Kochi distance can be misleading.
Central Ernakulam: Allow roughly 30–35 km by road, depending on your hotel.
Fort Kochi: The road transfer is roughly 40–45 km, with the exact distance depending on the route and address.
Taxi pickup: Use the airport taxi service or a pre-booked transfer. Share your flight details and hotel location in advance.
Metro connection: Take the airport feeder bus to Aluva Metro station, then continue towards the city. There is no direct metro train from the airport terminal.
Search for Ernakulam when booking rail travel to Kochi. The two main stations serve different train routes, so choose by both the train schedule and your hotel location.
Ernakulam Junction or South: Station code ERS. A practical arrival point for central Ernakulam and onward travel to Fort Kochi.
Ernakulam Town or North: Station code ERN. Another main city station; it is not the same stop as Ernakulam Junction.
Fort Kochi transfer: Continue by taxi or combine local transport with a boat crossing. Fort Kochi is not at either mainline station.
State-run and private buses link Kochi with towns across Kerala and neighbouring states. A car gives more flexibility for hotel drops and trips with several destinations.
Coastal approach: NH 66 connects Kochi with the coastal corridor towards Alappuzha and northern Kerala.
From Coimbatore or Bengaluru: Routes commonly approach through Palakkad and Thrissur, using NH 544 towards Kochi.
Bus arrival: Services may stop at Vyttila, the Ernakulam KSRTC bus station or other operator-specific points. Check your ticket before arranging pickup.

FAQs
Yes. Cochin is another name for Kochi, and the airport still uses the name Cochin International Airport. For train bookings, look for Ernakulam Junction or Ernakulam Town and check which station your train serves.
No. Use the airport feeder bus to reach Aluva Metro station, then board a metro train towards the city. Check both services’ operating hours, particularly for an early flight or late arrival.
A taxi or pre-booked car gives you a direct hotel transfer. For public transport, take the feeder bus to Aluva, continue by metro into Ernakulam, then use a local connection and a suitable boat service to Fort Kochi. Allow for several changes.
Both serve Kochi. Ernakulam Junction is South station, while Ernakulam Town is North station. Choose the train with the better arrival time and onward connection to your hotel. Tell your driver the exact station name; they are separate pickup points.
No. The metro rail line does not run into Fort Kochi. Complete the journey by road or connect to a boat service. Kochi Water Metro serves Fort Kochi, but you need to reach the correct boat terminal and check its departure schedule.
Arrange an airport taxi or pre-booked hotel transfer and confirm late check-in with your accommodation. Share your flight number so the pickup can account for delays. Check public transport hours before relying on a bus or metro connection.
Take a direct taxi, or use the airport feeder bus to Aluva and the metro to Ernakulam South. From the metro stop, follow local directions to the railway station. Leave a buffer for baggage collection, transfers and the walk to your train platform.
Match your arrival point with your hotel location, confirm the transfer and leave time to enjoy Kochi before travelling further into Kerala.
