Tirur Travel Guide
Tirur in Kerala is a countryside town filled with lush green plains and is a significant trading center for fish and betel. The place is the birthplace of the poet Thunchath Ezhuthachan, known as the “Father of Modern Malayalam” for his Malayalam recomposition of the Sanskrit epic Ramayana.
Further, the place has a lot of history as it was among the locations the British chose to lay the first railroads in Kerala. The infamous Moplah rebellion of Malabar, which led to the death of over 70 political prisoners due to negligence by the British, happened here. The place has a monument with a mounted scroll containing the victims’ names of the tragedy.
