Mumbai is home to a number of religious sites including splendid temples, peaceful churches, wonderful mosques, synagogues etc. the presence of these structures belonging to various faiths points out towards the secular nature of the city. Religious places in Mumbai are highly revered and are visited by a huge number of devotees as well as tourists every year. It is an interesting fact that Mumbai was formerly known as Bombay and was re-named Mumbai after Goddess Mumbadevi, the local deity of the city. While some of the monuments founded here were built just a few years back, other religious structures can be traced back to centuries.
