FAQs about Chardham Yatra by Road From Delhi

Q: When does the Chardham Yatra open?

Ans: Each year, the Chardham yatra commences on or before Akshaya Tritiya. Although Yamunotri and Gangotri Temples opened even before, the Chardham yatra began upon the opening of the Kedarnath Temple, followed by Badrinath Temple.

Q: When does Kedarnath Temple open?

Ans: The date and time of Kedarnath Temple opening each year depend on the day when, according to the Hindu Panchang, the Akshay Tritiya is observed. The date and time are formally announced on the Maha Shivaratri.

Priests in Ukhimath’s Omkareshwar Temple decided on the opening hour and date of the Kedarnath shrine after calculating the Panchang. It usually falls in late April or early May. This year, the Kedarnath Temple will open on 22nd April 2026.

Q: Why opt for the Char Dham Yatra?

Ans:The Char Dhams, consisting of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, are considered some of the holiest Hindu shrines. According to Hindu scriptures, every person should visit these sacred shrines at least once in a lifetime. These shrines are the origin of four holy rivers: River Yamuna from Yamunotri, River Ganges from Gangotri, River Mandakini from Kedarnath, and River Alaknanda from Badrinath. It is believed that undertaking a pilgrimage to these four holy places grants the devotees salvation, freeing them from the cycle of rebirth.
