Best fit: November to February

These are the strongest months for the complete circuit. Weather is cooler, safari conditions are more comfortable, and winter is especially rewarding for migratory birdlife in the Little Rann and Velavadar. Gujarat Tourism specifically recommends November–February for both reserves.

Also possible: March, April and mid-October onward

March and April remain workable, and the parks are operational, although temperatures rise noticeably. Mid-October onward is also possible once the reserves reopen after the monsoon. Gir Tourism lists November–March as its preferred period.

Avoid / least suitable: May to mid-October

May and the first half of June are technically possible but can be extremely hot, particularly during open-jeep safaris and long road transfers.

Note: From 16 June to 15 October, the main safari areas on this itinerary are seasonally closed, so the tour cannot operate as described.

• Book wildlife safaris well in advance, particularly Gir, where permits are issued through the official online system, and availability is limited.
• Carry the same original government-issued photo ID used for the Gir booking; entry can be refused if the ID details do not match. Foreign visitors need their original passport.
• Arrive at the Gir reception point at least 15 minutes before your safari time. Routes are allocated by the authorities rather than chosen by visitors.
• Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, including Asiatic lions. The safari should be enjoyed for the wider forest, birdlife and wildlife experience too.
• Expect long driving days: Little Rann–Bhuj takes about five hours, Bhuj-Gir around seven hours and Gir–Velavadar about five hours.
• Safaris often begin early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Carry layers in winter and sunscreen, a hat and drinking water during warmer months.
• Wear neutral, comfortable clothing for safaris and carry binoculars if birdwatching is important to you.
• Inside Gir, do not feed wildlife, litter, honk, leave the vehicle or disturb animals. Plastic items, smoking and alcohol are also prohibited in the forest area.
• Aaina Mahal is closed on Thursdays, so the Bhuj sightseeing schedule should be adjusted.
• The additional morning safari at Little Rann on Day 2 is optional and costs extra, so this should be confirmed before travel.
