Day-by-Day Itinerary

A 6 Nights / 7 Days itinerary for North East with Dooars.

  • Arrive at Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, where our tour representative will meet you and transfer you to Gangtok.
  • On arrival, check in at the hotel and relax after the journey.
  • The rest of the day is at leisure. You can explore Gangtok on your own or simply unwind at the hotel.

Departure: Gangtok

  • After breakfast, proceed for a day excursion to Tsomgo Lake, also known as Changu Lake.
  • Spend some time enjoying the high-altitude landscape and mountain views around the lake.
  • Continue to Baba Mandir, a popular stop on the Gangtok-Nathula route.
  • After sightseeing, return to Gangtok and spend the evening at leisure.

Optional: Visit Nathula Pass at an additional cost, subject to permit availability, weather, and current regulations.

Overnight: Gangtok

  • Begin your day with breakfast and check out from the hotel.
  • Proceed for a half-day sightseeing tour of Gangtok.
  • Visit Banjhakri Falls, the Cottage Industry and Handicraft Centre, the Flower Show, Do-Drul Chorten, and the Institute of Tibetology.
  • Later, you’ll head towards Darjeeling.
  • On arrival, complete the check-in formalities and relax at the hotel.

Overnight: Gangtok

  • Start early with a visit to Tiger Hill to watch the sunrise over the Himalayan peaks, weather permitting.
  • Return to the hotel for breakfast and continue your sightseeing tour.
  • Visit Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute.
  • Continue to a tea garden, Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop.
  • Later, visit the Japanese Temple, Peace Pagoda and Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre.
  • Spend some time exploring Darjeeling’s local markets before returning to the hotel.

Overnight: Darjeeling

  • After breakfast, check out from the hotel and begin your drive to Jaldapara.
  • Travel from the Himalayan hill landscapes towards the forests and grasslands of the Dooars.
  • On arrival at Jaldapara, check in at the hotel.
  • Spend the remaining day at leisure and relax amid the natural surroundings.

Overnight: Jaldapara

  • Have an early breakfast and proceed for a jungle safari in Jaldapara, subject to forest operations and safari availability.
  • Explore the forest and grassland habitat known for the Indian one-horned rhinoceros, elephants, deer and diverse birdlife.
  • Return to the hotel after the safari.
  • Later, proceed to Chilapata Forest for another nature and wildlife experience. Enjoy birdwatching and explore the forest surroundings.
  • Return to the hotel after the excursion.

Overnight: Jaldapara

  • Fuel up with breakfast and check out from the hotel.
  • Proceed to Bagdogra Airport or New Jalpaiguri Railway Station.
  • Continue with your flight or train for the onward journey.

Best fit: October to April, when Gangtok and Darjeeling generally offer comfortable sightseeing conditions and Jaldapara is open for wildlife tourism.

Also possible: May and late September can also work. May is warmer in the Dooars, while September travel depends on the monsoon withdrawal and the reopening of forest tourism.

Avoid: Mid-June to mid-September is not ideal as the monsoon can cause heavy rain and road disruptions in the hills, while Jaldapara and other Dooars forests normally remain closed for tourist safari operations during the peak monsoon period.

  • Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir require a Protected Area Permit, which is arranged through the applicable authorised process.
  • Access to high-altitude areas can change because of snowfall, landslides, weather or local authority instructions.
  • Nathula Pass is an optional excursion and remains subject to permits, nationality restrictions, operational days and weather conditions.
  • Tiger Hill sunrise views depend on weather and visibility.
  • Jaldapara safari timings and entry are controlled by forest authorities and remain subject to availability.
  • Wildlife sightings are natural and cannot be guaranteed during a safari.
  • Forest safari operations in the Dooars are normally suspended during the peak monsoon closure period.
