The Amarnath Yatra is one of the sacred pilgrimages in India and receives a huge footfall. Every year the Yatra starts around the starting of July and usually ends in August. Thus, this is the best time to plan your Amarnath Yatra. Due to lying on a high-altitude at a remote location, the Amarnath Cave remains inaccessible majority of the year. It is during these months that the weather and route to Amarnath become clear. Thus, the pilgrimage to the abode of Lord Shiva becomes possible. Also, to get the Darshan of the entire lingam of the Almighty, it is advisable to travel to Amarnath as soon as the Yatra starts 1st july 2021.

Amarnath during Summer- From May and June
Summer in Amaranth is cool and pleasant. The temperature never goes beyond 28 degree Celsius. Nights are relatively cooler. However, located at a high altitude the Amarnath cave and routes leading to it remains covered in snow. But, during these months preparations for the Amarnath Yatra begins. Efforts are made to make the trekking route clear. Usually, till the end of June, the Amarnath cave is open to the public. Hence, the best time to visit June till August can be considered as an option. Amarnath Yatra begain on 1st July and end on 22nd August 2021 (tentative date).
Why visit?
Summers in Amarnath is neither too hot nor cold. It is a great time to visit Amarnath Cave, which usually remains covered in snow. Activities like trekking can be enjoyed for darshan of the Shiv Lingam.

- Hotel prices might go up during summers, so book in advance.
- The weather is quite warm, make sure to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun.

Do carry your raincoats and woolens with you.

Amarnath during Winter- From October till April
Winter is the longest season at Amarnath. Expect the bone-chilling climate during this time. The temperature drops down to -7 degree Celsius. Winter is characterized by heavy snowfalls which block all the routes leading to the Amarnath Shrine. Thus, it becomes impossible to go on an Amarnath Yatra during these months.
Why visit?
If you love snow, visit Amarnath in winter. It is the perfect time to enjoy activities like skiing and snowboarding. The mountains are covered in snow and fog, which is a sight to behold.

Things to know before visiting Amarnath
- It is freezing in Jammu and Kashmir, so make sure to carry woolen clothes, jackets, caps, gloves. A windcheater, raincoat, and a torch might come in handy.
- Bring waterproof boots made of plastic or rubber. They gave a good grip and will help you with the water and snow.
- Mobile phones do not work in Baltal, Panchtarani, and Cave areas. Only the BSNL network works that too sometimes. There are no Local/STD/ISD booths. Remember to carry roaming enabled BSNL SIM cards from your hometown with you.
- If you wish to visit the Amarnath caves, remember photography and littering are not allowed inside the caves. So, follow the guidelines accordingly.
- If you are traveling with a family with children below 13 years and senior citizens 75 years and above, avoid trekking.
