The city of Guntur is located in the north eastern part of the state of Andhra Pradesh in the southern part of India. The Guntur city is situated in the delta of the River Krishna. Guntur lies on the Vijayawada-Madras Trunk Road and lies at a distance of about 9 kilometers east of the picture-perfect Kondaveedu range of hills. The city of Guntur is the center of operations of the district of its name, Revenue division and Taluk. The city of Guntur is one of the oldest municipalities, which was constituted in the year 1866. During the middle of the 8th century, the French founded the city of Guntur. But in 1788 Guntur was ceded permanently to the British.

The city of Guntur has an important railway junction and is connected by rail with Macherla, Vijayawada, Machilipatnam, Tenali, Hubli and Repalle. Guntur is an important commercial centre, with rice mills, tobacco curing barns, oil mills and cotton mills.
