Backwater cruise is a renowned getaway in Goa. It sails along the Mandovi’s lined banks, Old Goa and the islands, Chorao and Divar. People of all ages can board this cruise and relish the cheery time. The cruise has been named Shantadurg and it carries about 150 passengers. During this five-hour long tour one can indulge in various entertainment activities. The sight of abundant greenery, huge fishing nets, dolphins, glistening water, thick mangroves and even crocodiles sunning at the bay awaits you.
The cruise halts at spice garden at Savoi/ Keri where one gets in acquaintance with spice production and the distillation process, where the juice of cashew apples is used to make Goan urak/feni. Moreover, at the entrance of the spice garden is an elephant who often takes people for short rides. The aroma of cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, pepper is filled in the air. The visitors get warm welcome by the Spice Garden’s staff after a short stroll in the plantation. Further on they can enjoy the Goan food served on banana leaf. Returning back on the cruise, you can refresh your soul with the passing sight of the city .The cruise also passes through Dr. Salim’s Ali Bird Sanctuary at Chorao Iasland; a bird-enthusiast’s paradise.
Timing for departure and arrival of the cruise is- 9:30 pm to 4:00 pm (Tuesdays and Fridays). Entry charges are 900 per person with dinner and Rs. 450 for children between 5-12 years of age. The given information is valid from 1-10-2014 to 31-3-2015.
