Day-by-Day Itinerary

A 7 Nights / 8 Days itinerary for Gems of North East Tour.

  • Arrive at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station, Bagdogra Airport or Tenzing Norgay Bus Stand, where our tour representative will meet you.
  • Proceed by road to Kalimpong and check in at your pre-booked hotel.
  • Spend the evening at leisure. You can stroll through the local market, visit nearby nurseries or simply relax after the journey.

Departure: Kalimpong

  • Start the day with breakfast, then proceed for a sightseeing tour of Kalimpong.
  • Visit Deolo Hill, Hanuman Mandir, Forest Museum, Durpin Monastery and Mangal Dham.
  • Continue to Pine View Nursery and Dr. Graham’s Homes.
  • In the evening, explore Kalimpong’s nurseries or local markets at your own pace.

Departure: Kalimpong

  • After breakfast, check out from the hotel and drive to Gangtok.
  • On arrival, check in at the hotel and take some time to relax.
  • Later, visit the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom and the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology.
  • Continue to Enchey Monastery, Do Drul Chorten, White Hall and the Flower Exhibition Centre.

Departure: Gangtok

  • Today, after breakfast, leave for an excursion to Tsomgo Lake, located in the high-altitude region near Gangtok.
  • Spend some time around the glacial lake and enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery.
  • Continue to Baba Harbhajan Singh Mandir.
  • Return to Gangtok and spend the evening exploring MG Marg or the local markets.

Departure: Gangtok

  • Enjoy breakfast and check out from the hotel for your drive to Darjeeling.
  • On arrival, complete the hotel check-in formalities and relax.
  • The evening is free to explore Mall Road and the local markets or simply enjoy the hill-town atmosphere.

Departure: Darjeeling

  • Start early for Tiger Hill to watch the sunrise over the Himalayan peaks, weather permitting.
  • On the way back, visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop.
  • After breakfast, continue with Darjeeling sightseeing.
  • Visit Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute.
  • Continue to the Ropeway, Tea Estate, Tenzing Rock, Natural History Museum and Peace Pagoda.

Departure: Darjeeling

  • Fuel up with breakfast, leave for a day excursion to Mirik.
  • Spend time around Sumendu Lake, surrounded by pine-covered slopes and gardens.
  • You may opt for boating or horse riding around the lake.
  • Explore the surrounding tea gardens, cardamom groves and natural scenery.
  • On your way back to Darjeeling, stop at Pashupati Market for shopping.
  • Spend the evening at leisure on Mall Road.

  • Have breakfast and check out from the hotel.
  • Get an assisted transfer to Bagdogra Airport, New Jalpaiguri Railway Station or Tenzing Norgay Bus Stand for your onward journey.

Best fit: March to May and October to mid-December, when the weather is generally comfortable for sightseeing. Spring brings blooming rhododendrons and orchids, while autumn usually offers clearer Himalayan views.

Also possible: January, February and late December suit travellers who enjoy colder weather and the possibility of snow around higher-altitude areas. Access to Tsomgo Lake can depend on snowfall and road conditions.

Avoid: June to September is less suitable if you want predictable road travel. Monsoon rain can affect hill roads and may lead to landslides, delays or changes to high-altitude sightseeing.

  • A permit is required for visiting Tsomgo Lake. Permit requirements differ for Indian and foreign nationals.
  • Tsomgo Lake is located at high altitude, so travellers should keep warm, stay hydrated and avoid overexertion.
  • Access to Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir may be affected by snowfall, landslides or other road conditions.
  • Hill-road travel times can change depending on traffic and weather.
  • Some attractions in Kalimpong and Darjeeling have weekly closure days, so the sightseeing sequence may be adjusted locally.
