Ross Island Travel Guide

This uninhabited island is two kilometers east to Port Blair. Almost negligible existence of Human life does not in any way convince anyone that this island does not have life. During the era of British rule, Ross Island was the headquarters of The Indian Penal Settlement for about 80 years. Over the years, British dotted this island with church, tennis court, printing press, secretariat hospital, cemetery, water treatment plant, bakery, general stores, residents and everything else that makes human settlement easy. Everything was going well until a high-intensity earthquake shook the island. British headquarter was then shifted to Port Blair and today what lies in Ross are the ruins and a small museum by Indian Navy. In order to get into the islands you need special permissions, but it will surely be worth it. Using an adjective like “Awe-inspiring” for Ross Island would still not well justify its beauty.
