One of the most beautiful islands in the Andaman and Nicobar group, Ross Island is set at a distance of 2 km from Port Blair. Ross Island had to face the wrath of nature when it was hit by an earthquake in 1941 and a major part of its attraction were turned to ruins. However, this has not lessened their appeal even a bit. Today, tourists visit the island for its ruined yet stunning of buildings and churches. The island houses ruins of the state ballroom, the Chief Commissioner’s House, the old Andamanese House and the Government House.

All the ruins speak much about the old British regime. These ruins at Ross Island make every visitor flip back the pages of the bygone era. It is not just about the tourist attractions in Ross Island but the island has more to offer. There are a number of islands adjoining it that are worth-visiting such as Smith Island, Barren Island and Neil Island. This is why, the place is a favorite spot for nature lovers and history buffs.

The entire island is controlled by the Indian Navy. Do pay a visit to Smritika Museum, which is managed by the Indian Navy. The museum displays a collection of old records. Other attractions of the island include Cellular Jail, Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park and Forest Museum. Ross Island is easily accessible via boat services which operate between Port Blair and the Island.
