The answer is YES! But why? You want to know, right?
When we think of Kashmir, Dhartipe Swarg (Heaven on Earth) immediately comes to mind. It’s a destination that offers something magical every time you visit.
No wonder it’s on everyone’s bucket list. Maybe that’s why you’re here too.
But one question pops up in every traveller’s mind: When is the best time to visit Kashmir?
Is May a good month? Or should you go in winter?
May is when tourism kicks off in full swing. The roads that were blocked by heavy snowfall opened up again.
Because of this, many of us wonder: Will there still be snow in Gulmarg or Sonmarg? Has the snow completely melted? These are common questions, aren’t they?
Having lived in Kashmir for four years, I can confidently provide accurate, authentic information.
So, read this article to learn more about my experience exploring Kashmir in May and to decide whether this is the right time to visit.

Weather and Scenic Beauty in May
The weather in Kashmir during May stays between 5°C and 20°C. During the day, it’s the perfect temperature for sightseeing. The crisp morning air makes it ideal for a peaceful Shikara ride on Dal Lake.
In May, Kashmir becomes a natural masterpiece where spring freshness blends beautifully with early summer vibes.
You can visit the Mughal Gardens — Shalimar, Nishat, and Chashme Shahi. The gardens were a riot of colours with vibrant tulips, roses, and marigolds, and the lawns were beautifully landscaped.
Gulmarg and Sonmarg, being at higher altitudes, still have small patches of snow. It’s incredible how you can enjoy a touch of winter without the biting cold.
May is when Kashmir achieves perfect harmony — nature at its best, creating a paradise-like atmosphere at every turn.
Activities and Attractions to Enjoy in May
The magic of our May travel experience in Kashmir left no one disappointed. Here are some experiences that you can enjoy here:
Shikara boat ride
The top priority on my itinerary was a Shikara boat ride through Dal Lake.
There are many markets in between the peaceful lakes where you can shop.
The combination of water ripples, a calm breeze, and golden evening light created a memory that will last forever.

Beauty of Tulips
We were lucky since the Tulip Garden managed to keep some tulips in bloom.
A walk through the tulip garden became a magical experience because of the fragrance of fresh flowers and the continuous tulip rows stretching into the distance.
Cable Car Rides in Gulmarg
The Gulmarg Gondola ride is a must-do when in Kashmir.
I cannot express how beautiful it is to see heaven on earth from above. As we climbed higher, the temperature dropped steadily. The snow fight we had afterwards was also quite enjoyable.

Trekking around Pahalgam was the most thrilling experience for adventure seekers in my group. Every step along the Lidder River with its rushing pine forest was rewarding.
As I walked along the exceptional path, I was awestruck by nature’s beautiful artwork. The experience was surreal for me.
Besides those, you can also visit the Shankaracharya temple, the Pari Mahal, and the Lal Chowk market.
