Gadiya Mountain, Kanker is the highest mountain in Kanker District of Chhattisgarh. The mountain is also known as Kila Dongri. Flowing beneath the Gadiya Mountain is the Doodh River. On the occasion of Mahashivaratri a major festival is conducted here, during which thousands of devotees assemble. Kanker District is located in the southern region of Chhattisgarh. The district’s economy is based on agriculture.

History:

Gadiya Mountain, Chhattisgarh came to prominence at the time on the Kandra dynasty. After winning Kanker, the Kandra King, Dharma Dev declared his capital on Gadhiya Mountain, which was a natural form of a fort.

Description:

Gadiya Mountain, Kanker is well known for a tank, that never dries up. It does not dry up even in the hot summers. Named after the two daughters of the king Dharma Dev, Sonai and Rupai are the two parts of the tank. The southern part of the tank has a cave that is known as Churi Pagar, that was supposed to have been used by the king during any outer attacks. Another interesting feature of the Gadiya Mountain in Kanker in India is that it has a Jogi cave which is 50 meters in length. It is said that Saints used to live and meditate here in old times. The cave could accommodate 500 people. The cave also possesses a small pond. The water from this pond descends on the rocks below in a spectacular waterfall. The River Doodh flows by the foot of the Gadhiya Mountain.
