Malaysia Introduces e-visa for Indian Tourists

The Tourism of Malaysia has made a new move to bring in crowds to its beautiful country. The agency under Malaysia Tourism and Culture Ministry has recently introduced the Electronic Travel Authorization Visa (e-visa) for a visit to the country.

The e-visa facility is available to Indians residing in India. The visa is valid for a single journey stay of maximum 30 days in Malaysia for tourism purposes.

The Malaysia e-visa is priced at INR 2,710. The processed visa can be obtained within 24-48 hours with a validity of 3 months.

India is a significant contributor to the tourism economy of Malaysia and ranks sixth as a source market globally. In the last year around 7, 22, 149 Indian tourists visited Malaysia.

For the Malaysia e-Visa application, a tourist must have a Passport with a validity of at least 9 months, the latest passport-size photo (to be uploaded), a confirmed return-flight booking, and a birth certificate (for underage children).

Tourism Malaysia, Mumbai, Director Mohammed Hafiz said, “We are always trying to make travel to Malaysia as convenient as it can get, and the introduction of e-visa is a major step in that direction.”  He further quoted that the ease of visa shall make Malaysia Indian tourists’ first choice for an international holiday.

Tourism departments across the globe are vying to get the attention of Indians. India’s outbound travel industry estimates are growing at a rate 0f 15-20% every year. According to industry estimates, the number of Indians traveling overseas is set to rise to around 50 million by 2020.
