The younger sister lost her way during the journey. Unable to find her sister, the elder one shed tears continuously, which resulted in the formation of the Umiam Lake.

Umiam Lake is a man-made reservoir that was formed after the construction of a dam in 1965. The dam was a part of northeast India’s first hydel power project called the Umiam Umtru Hydroelectric Power Project. The Assam State Electricity Board built it and used it to store water to generate hydroelectric power.
Best Time to Visit Umiam Lake
Between October and May is the best time to visit Umiam Lake. This time of year is ideal for outdoor activities because the weather is pleasant. It’s the perfect time for sightseeing and water sports during the post-monsoon period between October and February.
