On the eastern banks of the holy Ganga, two kilometers away from Lakshman Jhula, The Swarg Ashram is located. This is the oldest and popular ashram of Rishikesh. Rishikesh is a spiritual land for Hindus and you can find hundreds of yogis and temples around. The Swarg Ashram too is influenced with the divine and encourages people to attain a rhythm between their body, mind and souls. There are two buildings in the Ashram, Akash Ganga and Dani Kothi. In Dani Kothi is an administrative building and has a dining hall which is often used as a lecture hall as well. Akash Ganga, on the other hand, is a guesthouse that has a yoga hall and canteen.
Swarg Ashram was established by Swami Atma Prakash. He aimed at providing all the facilities for the upliftment of spiritual knowledge. The library has an expansive collection of books giving religious and cultural teaching. Swarg Ashram has a hospital that provides free treatments to saints, mahatmas and pilgrims. The medicines are prepared with herbs by well-skilled doctors. Not just the hospital, free Vedic education and food are provided to poor students in Ashram’s school, Sanskrit Vidayalaya. There is another school belonging to the Ashram’s authorities (Modern School) and it gives primary and secondary education in English and Hindi. Sadhus and Mahatmas can stay for free in the living area. Free breakfast and dinner is provided to the Mahatmas living here.
