Hazratbal Shrine

Nestled on the left bank of Dal Lake, Hazratbal Shrine is one of the holiest pilgrimage sites for Muslims in India. Also known as Assar-e-Sharief, Dargah Sharif, and Madinat-us-Sani, the Inayat Begum established this mosque. This extravagant building was built in the 17th century by Emperor Shah Jahan and was converted into a prayer hall in 1634. This architecturally unique mosque houses an important relic Moi-e-Muqaddas, the sacred hair of Prophet Mohammad. This Persian-influenced-style mosque is the only domed mosque in Kashmir.
