#Day1
1. Starting in Delhi: A Journey through Modern & Ancient Heritage
06:00 am: India Gate
Yeah, you’ve got to begin your day early (probably at 6 am)!
But trust me, the early wake-up call will be more than worth it. Delhi is at its best during these peaceful early hours, far from the usual hustle and bustle.
Wrapped in my jacket (mornings are chilly), I reached India Gate, a tribute to the soldiers who fought for India’s independence.
Best Part?
There was no honking, no chatter, just a few joggers quietly moving past. For a moment, it felt like I had the entire city to myself, which made me feel surreal and liberating.
Pro Tip?
If you have spare time, stroll around the Rajpath leading to the President’s house. The view is mesmerising and crowd-free during sunrise, making it a perfect spot to admire the symmetrical gardens and structures.
08:00 am: Explore Chandni Chowk
After soaking in the serenity of India Gate, I headed toward Old Delhi to dive into the bustling lanes of Chandni Chowk. It’s chaotic, energetic, and brimming with history at every corner.
Walking through the narrow roads, I reached Jama Masjid, one of the largest mosques in India, standing proud at the end of the lane. The contrast between the vibrant market and the serene atmosphere inside the mosque was simply captivating.
And then… my favourite part, the food!
Make a short detour to the local eateries offering some of the most delicious breakfast options.
Pro Tip?
Wear comfortable shoes, as navigating Chandni Chowk’s narrow lanes can be a workout. Don’t miss grabbing a paratha from one of the iconic street vendors. It’s a local delicacy you simply can’t skip!
2. Afternoon in Agra: The Timeless Wonder of the Taj Mahal
01:30 pm: Arriving in Agra
After a few hours of exploring Delhi, I departed towards Agra (which takes around 2-3 hours), and let me tell you, it was a smooth ride. The excitement grew as I neared Agra, the city of the iconic Taj Mahal.
03:00 pm: The Taj Mahal
No trip to India would be complete without seeing the Taj Mahal, and stepping foot on the grounds of this breathtaking monument was like a dream.
The most loved part?
As the sun began to dip lower, the white marble of the Taj changed hues, shifting from a warm yellow to soft pinks. I spent a good hour witnessing the Taj from every angle.
Personal Favourite?
As I was gazing at the Taj from the Charbagh Garden, a local vendor approached and shared a story about the Taj’s construction. “He said the emperor ordered the hands of the workers to be cut off after the Taj was built to ensure no one could ever build anything more beautiful.”
05:00 pm: Agra Fort
Just a short distance from the Taj Mahal is Agra Fort, another historical gem of the Mughal Empire. The crumbled red sandstone walls and the panoramic views of the Taj Mahal from here were mesmerising. Agra Fort was a royal residence, and walking through the Moti Masjid and Diwan-i-Am felt like stepping into the Mughal era.
Pro Tip?
Spending time in the Anguri Bagh (grape garden), combined with the view of the Taj Mahal in the distance, was truly magical.
Evening in Jaipur: The Pink City Awaits
07:30 pm: Heading to Jaipur
After a day in Taj City, I head towards Jaipur (around 4-5 hours). Indian Holiday had arranged a private transfer to make the journey more comfortable so I could relax and reflect on the day’s adventures.
#Day2
07:30 am: Sunrise at Amber Fort
If there’s one place in Jaipur that’s stunning at sunrise, it’s Amber Fort.
I woke up early to see the fort in the soft light of dawn. When I stepped into the fort’s courtyard, the sun cast a golden glow across the sandstone walls.
I wandered through the Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace), where the intricate mirror work glistened in the early light, and the gardens felt serene and untouched by the crowds.
Pro Tip?
Arrive early before the crowds hit, and if possible, take the elephant ride to the top of the fort for a traditional experience.
09:00 am: Hawa Mahal
After Amber Fort, I visited Hawa Mahal, the Palace of Winds. The structure looked even more stunning in the morning light, with the delicate latticework on the windows casting intricate patterns on the ground.
My Moment?
Sitting at a rooftop café facing the Hawa Mahal with a cup of coffee, I admired this architectural masterpiece’s quiet elegance.
Insider Story?
My guide, Varun from Indian Holiday, told me that Hawa Mahal was built to allow the royal women to watch the street life below without being seen. “It was like a private theatre for them,” he explained.
11:00 am: City Palace and Jantar Mantar
The City Palace and Jantar Mantar offered a perfect treat to my Jaipur exploration.
The City Palace was a mix of Mughal and Rajput architecture, with beautiful courtyards and gardens.
Whereas Jantar Mantar was fascinating, too, with an impressive collection of large astronomical instruments. It gave me a glimpse into how ahead of their time the Rajputs were when it came to science.
Pro Tip?
If you’re a history or astronomy lover, don’t skip Jantar Mantar. It’s one of the largest stone observatories in the world!
12:30 pm: Lunch at a Traditional Rajasthani Restaurant
Before I bid farewell to this royal city, I enjoyed a traditional Rajasthani meal, complete with dal baati churma and gatte ki sabzi. Varun helped me find an authentic spot where the food was as flavourful as the experience.
02:00 pm: A Visit to the Albert Hall Museum
After a hearty Rajasthani lunch, I headed to the Albert Hall Museum. Located in the heart of Jaipur, this museum is housed in a grand building with Indo-Saracenic architecture.
But something that will deserve your attention is The MUMMY that rests in its coffin and waiting for YOU! But trust me, it is just one of the fascinating elements of the collection that will undoubtedly compel you to find its replicas in its local markets.
Pro Tip?
If you’re an art or history buff, don’t miss this museum. It’s a quiet, reflective place to immerse yourself in Rajasthan’s royal past.
04:00 pm: Jaigarh Fort
For my final stop in Jaipur, I decided to head a bit off the beaten path to Jaigarh Fort. Perched high on the Aravalli Hills, this place offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Jaipur and Amber Fort below.
Curious thing?
The fort is famous for housing the world’s largest cannon on wheels, Jaivana, and its massive walls, watchtowers, and secret passageways make it feel like a step back in time.
Story Moment?
As I stood on the fort’s ramparts, Varun shared a story about how the fort was once used as a military outpost during battles. “Imagine being here, watching over the kingdom as enemies approached,” he said.
05:30 pm: The Nahargarh Fort
Nahargarh Fort?
Ah! For my final experience in Jaipur, I couldn’t resist visiting it!
It was the perfect place to catch the sunset. As I sat there, watching the sun lower its gaze, the city of Jaipur slowly transformed from a bustling metropolis into a twinkling sea of lights.
The best part?
I met a local at the fort who shared a fascinating legend about the fort’s construction. “The name Nahargarh comes from ‘Nahar’, which means ‘tiger.’ The fort was built in the 18th century to protect the city from wild tigers,” she explained.
06:30 pm: Final Dinner at a Rooftop Café
After a busy day exploring Jaipur, I headed to one of the city’s rooftop cafés for dinner. There’s something magical about dining with a view of the illuminated Hawa Mahal and Amer Fort in the distance. The soft glow of Jaipur’s evening lights and the cool night air created the perfect setting to reflect on my whirlwind 48-hour adventure.
I ordered a traditional Rajasthani thali, which was the perfect end to the day. As I sat there, watching the world go by, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for my journey.
08:00 pm: Departure or Final Night in Jaipur
If you’re catching a late-night train or flight, Indian Holiday can arrange a comfortable ride back to the station or airport. But if you’ve got a bit more time, Jaipur is the perfect place to wander at your own pace one last time before you head home.
