Mysore Zoo

Referred to as Sri Chamarajendra Zoological garden, Mysore Zoo in Mysore is one of the most popular tourist attractions, around 3km away from the city center. Established in 1892, the Zoo is put up on a portion of land in summer palace of Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar. The Zoological garden here is considered to be set up by Maharaja himself. It is also believed that Maharaja travelled to different parts of the world, to collect rare species of flora and fauna.

Mysore Zoo in Mysore is one of the oldest Zoos in South-India. The Zoo is best-known for some rarely seen animals including elephants, lions, tigers, green anacondas and giraffes. It is the only Zoo in India to has gorillas. You also get to see some colorful feathered birds, which are kept in the aviary section that closes by 5pm.

The floral diversity of the Zoo is very high. There are several rare and common plants. Apart from boasting of wide range of flora and fauna, the Zoo offers a charming view of Chamundi hills, settled at the backdrop.

Mysore Zoo in Mysore also runs an animal adoption program, where you can adopt animals for a given period of time. The Zoo is open on all days of the week from 8:30am to 5:30 pm; except Tuesdays. The entry charge for adults is Rs. 50 per person and for children is Rs. 20.
