Kanha in Madhya Pradesh is an enchanted land of wilderness. Famous for the Kanha National Park, the lands are the ideal setting for Rudyard Kipling’s classic novel, The Jungle Book. Kanha is known for its National Park and visitors cannot leave without a safari tour. There are two safaris a day. The forest department of Kanha regulates safaris, one from dawn until late morning, and mid-afternoon until sunset. The best time to spot the animals is early in the morning or after 4 p.m. When going on a safari, fees must be paid for jeep hire and jeep entry. The latest entry rates for safari per jeep, carrying up to six people, are 3,000 INR for foreigners and 1,500 INR for Indians. A guide costs around 150 INR per trip for Indians, and 400 INR for foreigners. The cost of a jeep and driver is around 1,800 INR. Come face to face with wild beasts from the safety of the jeep. Kanha can be visited throughout the year except the monsoon. The park remains closed from July 1 to October 31 due to the rains. October to June are the months when one can holiday here. The peak season is the soothing winters from November to February. March and April, it starts getting hot and the animals come out in search of water and it becomes easy to spot the wild species inhabiting the land. Kanha is a natural blessed region, not much development has happened here so as not to disturb the ecology. There are limited options of accommodation in the region and in the peak season it is better to book for holidays in advance.
