Punjab remembers their heroes- Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev by observing the Martyr’s Day every year. Belonging to the village of Punjab, their martyrdom had set new horizon during the freedom movements of India. The trio sacrificed their lives to attain India’s Independence from the violent British rule. They were young and educated lot with modern outlook, non-believers of the policies of Mahatma Gandhi. Their opposition to give up the struggle and introduction of extremism in the ways to achieve freedom was the reason of their deaths. According to British orders, the three fighters were hanged to death on March 23. To honor the sacrifices that Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev made for the country, the state of Punjab celebrate the Martyr’s Day on January 30 every year. Bhagat Singh and his associates strongly believed that only active struggle and ways of extremism and not passive struggle sermonized by Mahatma Gandhi and his disciples. The schools and colleges of Punjab observes this day with lot of reverse and prayers. 23 March will remain as a memorable day in the history of the state and country with the death of the three fighters. There young age, dedication, and devotion to motherland make them an inspiration for many. Parents in Punjab villages still recite tales of their bravery to their young children. Martyr’s Day is marked with the sadness throughout the country because of the patriots who laid down their lives for the country. Many clubs and social halls have meetings, speeches, and conference on this day. The young are said stories of their act of selflessness and devotion.
