Connecting the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India is the Pamban Bridge, a cantilever bridge on the Palk Strait (a narrow stretch of water between Tamil Nadu and the Mannar district, which is one of the 25 districts of Sri Lanka). Opened in the year 1914, Pamban Bridge was the first and longest sea bridge in India till 2010. (The bridge refers to both the road bridge and the cantilever railway bridge.)

The Pamban Bridge in Palk Strait is an incredible example of the toughest engineering challenges. Thousands of travelers visit Pamban Bridge to experience the sheer magnificence of the place. The bridge is approximately 2 km long and the only accessible mode of transportation between the mainland and the island.
