History of the Ashram

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi took 15 acres of land in 1961 from the Forest Department on a 20 years lease. However, after all his efforts, the ashram failed to renew the lease, which expired in 1981. Years later, in 2000, the Supreme Court issued an order asking the Forest Department to get rid of all the illegal occupants from the reserve area and across India. Therefore, the staff of the yogi was vacated, and by 2003, the ashram was left to breathe in peace.

Open-Air Gallery

Maharishi Ashram has been closed officially, but the tranquility has not yet faded. The building is abandoned, but the lecture hall has been turned into an open-air gallery under the project called Beatles Cathedral. Their songs’ lyrics and pictures are painted all over the walls. 

Entry Fee

The Beatles Ashram falls under the Rajaji Tiger Reserve. Therefore, the visitors need to pay a charge of INR 150 for Indians and INR 600 for foreigners.
