Set in the heart of the city on a hillock, Takhteshwar Temple is a revered temple of Gujarat dedicated to Lord Shiva. The tranquil marble courtyard of the temple is all around surrounded by greenery that adds to the ambiance of the temple. A total of 18 marble pillars support the temple. Around the main shrine of Lord Shiva, there are images of Hindu gods and Hindu symbols that have been prepared by hand. The courtyard also houses a small statue of Nandi the bull.

From the temple, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Bhavnagar and its picture perfect surroundings. Thousands of devotees visit the temple from different parts of the country to seek blessings of Lord Shiva. Especially on the occasion of Shivaratri, a number of devotees visit the temple to pay homage to Lord Shiva. The best time to visit Takhteshwar Temple is from the month of October to March when the weather remains cool and pleasant. The temple remains open from dawn to dusk.

History

The temple was constructed back in the year 1893 and was named after Maharaja Takhatsihnji who was one of the most important rulers of Bhavnagar. He was the one who ordered who ordered to build the temple. Takhteshwar Temple is one of the oldest temples in Gujarat.
