Gulab Bari, Faizabad

Faizabad is a small town, which in spite of having a rich and elaborate history, is not as renowned as a few of the other Cities in Uttar Pradesh. The picturesque town is based on the left of the River Ghagra, which is a tributary of the holy Ganges.

More importantly, Faizabad is also merely 6 kilometers away from the historic kingdom of Ayodhya, which according to the epic Ramayana, is the birthplace of Lord Rama. Clearly, the significance of Faizabad need not be explained any further.

These attributes of Faizabad have also resulted in its possessing a number of important Monuments. One of such Monuments in Faizabad is the Gulab Bari, Faizabad.

History of Gulab Bari, Faizabad

Gulab Bari in Faizabad, India is the popular name for the rose garden that surrounds the Mausoleum of Shuja-ud-daulah, who was the third Nawab of the province of Awadh (or Oudh). The Faizabad Gulab Bari was established in the year 1775.

Description of Gulab Bari, Faizabad

As can be understood from the name itself, Gulab Bari, Faizabad (Gulab or Golap means rose), is a garden of roses in Faizabad. Beds of roses of various hues surround the various monuments of the place.

Built over a large area, the Golap Bari houses the tombs of Shuja-ud-daulah in the center and that of his mother to its left and father to its right. Apart from these, the Faizabad Gulab Bari also contains a Mosque and a tomb of a holy Muslim man, which is better known as an Imambara. This Imambara is located on the southern side to where the three tombs lie.
