The museum is housed in the portion of the building that was an extension of the Residency.

1857 Memorial Museum, Residency in Lucknow showcases the visual details of the 1857 mutiny. The commendable collection of old photographs, paintings, lithographs, documents will generate curiosity among the visitors only to satisfy it in an interesting way. Among the other articles of interest are included the antique objects like guns, swords, musketing canons, rank badges and medals. You will also come across paintings that give pictorial details of the battle fought at the Residency. The exhibits are arranged and displayed in a chronological order that enables even a layman to get a good idea about the sequence of events. Along with the portraits of the local heroes, one can also take a close look at the original photographs related to the uprising. The museum is divided into the two distinct segments, the ground floor and the basement. The ground floor incorporates four galleries while the basement comprise of seven galleries. There has been a new addition that has been made to 1857 Memorial Museum, Residency, Lucknow. A new gallery has been introduced in the basement that displays the artifacts that were unearthed during the excavation in the southern part of the Residency complex. The museum remains closed on Monday and is open to the visitors from 10.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.
