Exploring Goa!
Last Updated Mar 04, 2019 Indian Holiday

Goa – Sun, Sand and Surf!

Tourists head to Goa for several reasons, the foremost among them being its incredible beaches. Goa has a lot to offer in terms of adventure, sightseeing and exploration. It also boasts a glorious history and heritage. For example, the churches in Goa are the oldest in India and many of them are UNESCO World Heritage Sites too. Then, there are the spice plantations, which give tourists the “exotic” side of India they are always eager to experience. Apart from these, the several waterfalls, forts and casinos also make a honeymoon in Goa an amazing experience.
However, its beaches stand apart from the rest. Not only do they host the most happening parties in town, but also, they provide excellent watersports opportunities. One of them is surfing. Riding the waves is as exciting as it gets, and provides you that adrenaline rush which you so crave for. Surfing in Goa is gaining a rapid popularity, and in several beaches of the state, one can see this delightful sport being enjoyed by the tourists. In this blog, we tell you the best surfing spots in Goa, the best time to enjoy surfing and other related information.

Where to enjoy surfing in Goa?

There are several beaches in Goa where you can enjoy surfing. However, the most popular of these is Palolem Beach. Also known as Paradise Beach, it’s quite shallow and therefore, provides the best conditions for surfing. During the winters, you should head to Patnem Beach to enjoy surfing using a longboard. The warm waters, along with the waves which rises to nearly 3ft in height, provide the best opportunities for surfing.
The pleasures of surfing in semi-isolation can be enjoyed at Agonda Beach, which is also known as the Silent Beach. During the monsoons, however, the waves can range from slight to strong. Surfing in Vagator Beach too is really fun. However, you should watch out for sunken anchors and ropes while doing so here. For an enjoyable day at the beach along with some great surfing, head to the Colva Beach. In Calangute Beach, you can try surfing if you have some experience with it, because the rip currents are very strong.

Best time for surfing in Goa

Goa – Sun, Sand and Surf!

If you happen to be a beginner, then the best time to go surfing is from November till March, when the waves aren’t too harsh. Experienced surfers can try surfing during the pre and post monsoon periods. During this time, the waves swell up quite a bit, thus making it quite challenging.

Should I know how to swim?

Swimming is absolutely necessary to enjoy surfing. You can surf without knowing swimming. This is a basic prerequisite because you are going to be in the middle of the action. Imagine going under a wave and not knowing how to swim! While you don’t have to be able to swim like a professional, you should be comfortable enough in the water.
Surfing is an extremely exciting and adventurous sport which should be tried when you visit Goa with Goa tour packages. Learn it, try it and soon, you will be the master of the waves. Happy surfing!
