5 Horror Movies Shot at Real Haunted Places

Imagine you are the main lead in a scary movie and after pack-up, you return to your house. Suddenly, you start hearing weird sounds and feel something breathing down your neck when you are trying to sleep. Spooky enough?

Have you ever seen a haunted movie and wondered ‘What if things got real when they were filming this scene?’ Then, you are not alone. Filmmakers are always on a venture to find uncanny stuff to horrify the audiences and it is actually miserable to know they get spooked themselves on certain film sets.

If you are a horror movie junkie, you will be thrilled to know about some spine-chilling coincidences that happened during and after certain scary movies were made.

The Exorcist (1973)

This is probably one of the scariest movies made in its time. Finding out that the set where this was shot was actually haunted makes it even more creepy yet fascinating. When the team was filming, a part of the set suddenly went up in flames. As a result, the entire Regan house was rebuilt, besides the bedroom.

Every member of the cast and crew was shocked and shaken to the core. They got petrified to the point where they called a pastor to bless the set. After The Exorcist got released, the actors playing Burke Dennings and Mrs. Karras along with eight production members suddenly died.

Also, the church across the movie set was tilted. Many people say that it got struck by lightning but believe whatever you want. The movie was banned after the incident but got unbanned again in 1999.

The Conjuring (2013)

You must have already seen this spine-tingling movie released in 2013. It was based on a real-life tragedy of the Perron family. The set of this movie was haunted and this sweeped-in a lot of eerie stuff into the cast’s life.

The actress playing Lorraine Warren, Vera Farmiga, said that she felt anxious on the sets of The Conjuring. She even refused to bring her script back to her home. The entire crew of the movie felt the same on the set. Also, during filming, the real Perron family visited the sets and the crew noticed that a “strange rush of dust” followed the family everywhere.

Carolyn Perron felt a push as she got back and mentioned that “something” has returned home with her.

Annabelle (2014)

If you have never seen this movie, then you are probably living under a rock. One of the scariest movies in recent years, Annabelle is a story of a creepy doll. Most of you must be terrified of witnessing a real-life ghost or hearing eerie sounds. The casts and movie production members of Annabelle were equally scared.

The whole set where the film was shot was haunted by the doll of Annabelle. Some members witnessed incidents of doll’s changing behaviors along with moving chairs, flying racks, and unmatchable fingerprints all over.

Leonetti, the director of Annabelle shared his story of working with the doll and remembered the first time he went into the apartment. He saw three fingers through the dust on the window just like Annabelle’s that were backlit by the moon.

The Omen (2006)

Omen is one spine-tingling movie that was released in 2006. It is believed that this movie had a haunted production. Before the shooting even began, the main lead of The Omen, Gregory Peck, and executive Marc Neufeld got struck by sudden lightning. A few days after, Peck shot himself in the head.

In the movie, one of the scenes required the baboons’ reactions and a man was called to train them. Unfortunately, he died the next day as a tiger got a hold of his head. One of their special effect workers also got into a severe car accident and survived, but his passenger Liz Moore was beheaded. Reports claimed this incident resembled a scene from the movie and they both were around 66 km from a town named Ommen in the Netherlands when it happened.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)

A movie about a debate on the reality of demonic possessions and paranormal stuff, The Exorcism of Emily Rose is one of the scariest movies you will see. Due to its unpopularity, most people don’t know about the active ghosts on its set.

During filming, the crew members heard radio and televisions going crazy in the middle of the night or three in the morning. Everyone believed that it was the devil’s hour and the set has ghosts. Also, the actress who played Emily, said that her radio would turn on suddenly and started playing the chorus of Pearl Jam’s “Alive” at three o’clock every night.

Whether or not these stories from the movie sets hold an account, they are still really scary and will remain a mystery. And next time after you watch a horror movie, make sure to check underneath your bed, behind curtains, and lock the doors before sleeping.
