Kankaria Lake is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Ahmedabad. It is an artificial Lake with 34 sides and a circuit of 1.25 km. It also has steps that lead downwards to the water level. The eastern side of the lake has an extravagantly carved water inlet that has three openings in circular form. Right amid the Lake, a pleasure pavilion called Nagina Wadi is placed on an artificial island. This was a wonderful island summer palace lying on the city’s southeastern side. The lake is encircled by a public pathway where visitors can enjoy a walk. In the evenings, the places bustle with many visitor activities, food stalls, and other entertainment options. However, Kankaria Lake rides are some of the most popular things to do here.

History of Kankaria Lake

Kankaria Lake was founded by Sultan Qutb-ud-Din in 1451; this lake is almost one mile in circumference. History states that Mughal Emperor Janagir often visited the lake with Noor Jahan. Moreover, some stories associated with its name are fascinating. One depicts that Sultan Qutb-Ud-Din questioned Shah Alam, a saint, for a place to build a garden and tank. Then he scattered some pebbles and made the lake, becoming Kankaria Lake.
