History
Emperor Babur commissioned Mehtab Bagh, which was later expanded by Emperor Shah Jahan as part of his plan to enhance the view of the Taj Mahal. The garden was initially intended to be where the emperor could admire the Taj Mahal, and it was thoroughly planned to be perfectly aligned with the mausoleum across the river. The place was once an oasis with sweet-smelling flowers, fruit trees, shaded pavilions, fountain jets and reflecting pools, but it ceased to exist in history. Over the centuries, Mehtab Bagh in Agra faced neglect and lost its earlier charm, but it has since been restored to its former glory.Description
Mehtab Bagh is a 25-acre plot measuring 300 metres on each side. It has become an epicentre for the top court-ordered project to set up protective greenways around the Taj. The garden is laid out in the typical Charbagh style, with a central walkway divided into four parts. Its pathways are lined with fragrant flowers and lush greenery, providing a peaceful atmosphere. It is directly aligned with the Taj Mahal, offering a breathtaking view of the monument, especially at sunrise and sunset.
