The vast canopy of the Banyan tree at Fatehgarh occupying 3-4 acres of land is a unique site. It is also known as Kaya Kalp Vriksh. Similar to this vast tree there had been a canopy for the people of Punjab, it was the tenth Guru, named Guru Govind Singh His sons were illegitimately taken by Wazir Khan and killed for refusing to embrace Islam. The Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib Jor Mela is held every year to commemorate the poignant episode; it is a social gathering and people from diverse class and creed join this grand fiesta 14th May is therefore also known as Fateh Diwas. It was the day when the two innocent sons of Guru Govind Singh were murdered by bricking. To memorize the valiant innocent heroes, each year at the Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib Jor Mela a Golden Palanquin of Panj Piaras is taken out in a pageant which moves from the Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib to the Gurdwara Sri Jyoti Swarup. Flanked with flowers in the memory of the two Sahibzadas the Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib Jor Mela is accompanied with marital arts performances too. This is known as the Gatika Play. It commences from the principal Pandal and commences towards the rest with equal enthusiasm. For such a tragic incident the reputed Hindi Poet Maithillisharan Gupt composed a splendid poem. “Jis kul Jaati desh ke bachche de sakte hain balidan, us desh ka vartman kuchh bhi ho par bhavishya hai maha mahan” The meanings of the above lines are that the community that is replete with such heroic personalities is best suited for a prosperous future despite its tragic present. This seemed to rejuvenate the gloomy atmosphere of India and rouse the youngsters into action. But then the pride of the Mughals was wrecked to the ground and victory was won over them. To observe the date of the tragic fate this day is celebrated every year with enthusiasm and knack. It is usually celebrated in the month of May which in India is also known as Jaistha.Description of the Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib Jor Mela:
