Himalayan Zoological Park

Himalayan Zoological Park is a famous zoo in Gangtok and is one of the few places in India where animals are kept in their natural habitat. The park spans 230 acres of forested land, with elevations ranging between 6500 to 500 feet and is one of the popular tourist attractions in Gangtok. The park is home to leopard cats, barking deer, leopards, Himalayan black bear, Tibetan wolves, yaks, lady Amherst pheasant, barking deer, golden pheasant, Red pandas, Yaks, Gorals, large Indian civets, Silver Pheasant, Kalij, clouded leopard and a lot of other creatures. The area is huge and the animals are kept in open enclosures. That said, you might not be able to spot all of them.

At a short distance of 6 kilometers from Himalayan Zoological Park, the famous temple of Gangtok, Hanuman Tok, is located. A 2.5 km long road runs through the park. One can choose to take a stroll or book a reserved car to enjoy their visit.

If you are taking a walk, you can find different resting places with shelters and benches. Some spots also have a café, souvenir shop, washroom, drinking water facility, and a watchtower for a spectacular view of the park. Himalayan Zoological Park is located 6 km from the main city.
