Kozhikode Tourism | Kozhikode Travel Guide

Calicut, also known as Kozhikode is one of the principle cities of the Indian state of Kerala. It is at this city that the administrative headquarters of the district is located. Apart from being a major tourist destination, it is a major commercial hub of Kerala. It is at this city that the Portuguese Navigator Vasco Da Gama anchored. During the British period, Kozhikode traded in cardamom and black pepper.

This district with serene beaches, emerald green countryside, and historic sites is set with the Arabian Sea on the west and the Wayanad hills on the east. The most important region of Malabar in earlier times, Kozhikode was the capital of the powerful Zamorins and a major trade and commerce center as well. The city continues to be a center of flourishing domestic and international trade, being the marketing center for commodities like pepper coconut, coffee, rubber, lemon grass oil etc.

Kozhikode found a place in World History with the discovery of sea route to India by the Portuguese navigator Vasco Da Gama, who landed at the Kappad sea shore in 1498. A monument is constructed here to commemorate the historical landing.
