Introduction

Guwahati is one of the rapidly growing cities in the state of Assam and is a well known business hub and tourist destination in north eastern India. It ranks among the fastest growing cities in the world and is known for its rich heritage and culture.

Guwahati in Assam is located by the banks of the River Brahmaputra and is popularly known as the "Gateway of the North East". The name of the city is derived from two Assamese words namely 'guwa' (areca nut) and 'haat' (market place). Guwahati is surrounded by lovely hillocks and is popular for its scenic beauty.

The climate of Guwahati, Assam is mostly tropical. The summer months are warm and humid while the winter months are cool and pleasant. Rainfall is heavy during the monsoon. The best time for coming to Guwahati is between the months of October and March. The weather is this part of the year is pleasant with very little rainfall.
