Chardham Yatra Opening Dates 2020

The holy Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand remains open for devotees only for a brief period of six months of the year. Located in the lap of the Himalayas, amid snow covered peaks, the four auspicious dhams remains inaccessible for half the year and doors of the temples remain closed. Every year the temples open their doors from April-May to October- November. The opening dates depend upon the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya also known as Akha Teej, while the closing dates depend on the festivities of Vijay Dashami, Bhai Dooj and Diwali. In 2020, the Starting date of the Chardham Yatra is 26th May and the tentative closing dates are till the 30th of November. The dates are fixed after considering the Panchang, the Hindu calendar. The dates are usually declared by the Char Dham temple committee along with the Kedar-Badri Mandir Samiti.

The Yamunotri Temple and Gangotri Temple open on the day of Akshaya Tritiya every year followed by the portal opening of Kedarnath Temple and Badrinath Temple after a couple of days. Yamunotri and Kedarnath Dham close on Yama Dwitiya/Bhai Dooj whereas the Gangotri Dham closes on the day of Diwali. And the door of Badrinath temple closes on the day of Vijaya Dashami.

Tentative Opening Date of Gangotri Temple 2020

The Gangotri Dham will open on the 26th April 2020 on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya like each year. The expected date for closing of the temple is the day after Diwali on the 27th October 2020 also the holy day of Govardhana Puja.

Tentative Opening Date of Yamunotri Temple 2020

The Yamunotri temple doors will be opened on 26th April 2020. On the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya each year, the temple doors open for pilgrims marking the start of the holy Chardham Yatra. The tentative dates for closing the shrine falls on the day of Bhai Dooj also known as Yama Dwitiya, which will fall on 28th October 2020.

Tentative Opening Date of Kedarnath Temple 2020

Kedarnath temple doors open on the 30th April 2020. It is revered shrine of Lord Shiva, housing one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. Every year the opening date of Kedarnath is declared and decided on the day of Maha Shivaratri. The closing date of Kedarnath temple is fixed on Bhai Dooj, which will happen on 29th Oct 2020.

Tentative Opening Date of Badrinath Temple 2020

Badrinath temple will be opened on 28th April 2020. The opening date is decided on Basant Panchmi and the closing dates will be declared on Vijaya Dashmi. The expected closing date of the temple is expected to be on 30th November 2020.

As it is believed that pilgrimage must be done in clockwise direction, therefore the Char Dham Yatra starts with a visit to Yamunotri, then Gangotri, then Kedarnath and last but not the least Badrinath.
