Located in the Zanskar range, at the northernmost tip of India, Tanglang La pass is famed as the second highest mountain pass in Leh Ladakh region. It is located at an altitude of around 17000 ft, on the Manali-Leh highway. Characterized by such an altitude, Tanglang La pass is like the gateway to Leh. As one drives through this high motorable pass, scenic views on both sides are likely to make his journey wonderful. Besides the pristine beauty, the pass also provides for an adventurous streak at its numerous rough and sharp terrains.
Like the other mountain passes in Ladakh, Tanglang La pass also has a temple and a stone marker, informing about the altitude. This marker and temple turn out to be very helpful for the travelers. As the journey to Tanglang La Pass is not an easy one, one can make a halt at Sarchu and Upshi, which are the two nearby settlements of the pass. These two locations are only half an hour away from the civilization of Leh.
