Tsomgo Lake Gangtok

Tsomgo Lake is situated near the Indo-China Border on the way to NathuLa Pass. Both domestic tourists and international tourists are allowed to visit this lake. It is also known as Changu Lake and is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Sikkim. Tourists must obtain a permit from the Gangtok or Sikkim's Government certified tour operator.

The same permit for Indian national tourists would allow them to visit the Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple, 17 km (approx.). Kindly note that foreign tourists from any nation cannot visit Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple. Their permit is valid only for Tsomgo Lake. An Aadhar Card of any tourist would not be considered valid identification proof to obtain a Protected Area Permit. You must show your driver's license, PAN Card, and Passport copy to get the permit to visit Changu Lake.

Why is Tsomgo Lake in Gangtok Worth A Visit?

Tsomgo Lake in Gangtok is the top tourist spot in Sikkim to taste the first snowfall in Sikkim. However, you could photograph the unmistakable beauty of Changu Lake (another name) in a different season. This glacial lake freezes during the winters and turns into dark, inky green colors. In summer, the water of this lake is sapphire blue. How to Reach Changu Lake Sikkim

Changu Lake could be reached easily from the capital town (Gangtok) in just 1-2 hours. The distance between Tsomgo Lake and Gangtok is supposed to be 45 km (approx.). Driving your vehicle or hiring a self-drive car is not recommended as the roads are not good. Instead, hire an experienced taxi driver who will guide you towards Tsomgo Lake in SUV vehicles like Scorpio, Bolero, Innova, or Fortuner.
