History of Jaipur

Jaipur bears a distinct significance as it is the capital of the state of Rajasthan. The city was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. It also has the honor of being the first planned city in India. The city was designed by Bengali Duru Vidyadhar. The principles of Shilpa Shastra are embedded in the process of building this city. It actually helped in making the city most well planned city in India.

As said earlier, the various structures in the city are a manifestation of its rich history. One of the most historically significant structures of the city is the fortification walls that enclose the city. The walls also haves seven gates. The city also has a number of wide roads and avenues. Moreover, the city is built on the basis of a grid system. It is arranged in nine rectangular city sectors.

The various forts and palaces of the city reflect the rich history of Jaipur. On visiting these forts and palaces you will learn a lot about the grandeur and splendor of the Rajout era. The city is also known as the 'Pink City'. This character also has a historical significance. In the year, 1876 the whole city was painted in pink to mark the arrival of Prince of Wales.

The city has come along a long way from the place with a rich history to a city with various modern amenities. The 19h century marked Jaipur's rapid development towards a prosperous city. A number of industries, hospitals and institutions were built in the 20th century.
