Sivananda Ashram was introduced by the Divine Life Society, which was founded by Sri Swami Sivanandaji Maharaj. The Divine Life Society has its branches in different parts of the world. The ashram is where Swami Maharaj attained newer heights in modern yoga. Today, his disciples cling on to his teachings with faith and calmness. The ashram itself has a gentle aura that makes disciples’ learning an easy task. Few beds are available in the ashram, which are not given to the general public. Traditional yoga classes are held every day. These daily classes involve controlling of breath, physical postures and more. Classes for women run from 5:30 AM to 6:45 AM and for men the timing is from 6 AM to 7 PM. In the rest of the day holy rituals, worships, lectures, prayers to the sunset and sunrise are performed.
Disciples preoccupy themselves with selfless services, ego-annihilation, soul-consciousness and contemplation. Many of them believe it’s not them who are working, but their guru is working through them. If you wish to know more about the connection of human with the almighty, Ashram’s library will serve you with the best knowledge.
